L’Amour, Presidential Style

“Amour veut tout sans nombre, amour n’a point de loi.” – Pierre de Ronsard
English translation: “Love wants everything without condition, love has no law.”
“In France, you can be walking down the street with your lover and no one would care. Not even your spouse! But in Italy, it would make the front page of the morning newspaper.”
This past September I had the pleasure of hanging out with my Italian cousin who lives in France. We spent some time roaming the streets of Adelfia, my mother’s birthplace in Italy, population 16,000. The subject of relationships, and marital affairs came up. And she made the above hypothesis as we talked about an italian couple who had recently gotten a divorce due to an extramarital affair.
It seems like the French just follow their heart when it comes to the matters of love. I recently read this interesting post on LikedIn about a candidate running for President in France:
The next French President is 39 years old. But that is not the news.
He is married to a 64 year-old, that is still not the news. His wife was his class teacher 24 years ago…not still the news.
His then class teacher had a daughter who was his classmate…everybody including his parents thought this teacher’s daughter was his girlfriend…nope they were wrong. He fell in love with his class teacher when he was 15…she was “happily married” with 3 kids…now the “happily married” is relative in this context.
At 17, he promised to marry her. She was at the time 42 years. They got married in 2007 with our man now 30…well she was almost 55.
Next month he is going to be sworn-in as the President of France 6 months to his 40th birthday while his lovely wife who has 3 adult kids and 7 grandchildren (her first child is two years older than her husband while her second child, the former classmate/sweetheart is the same age as him).
His name is Emmanuel Macron (39) and he is the next President of France.
So if you are single… relax… he’s not born yet!
Well, at least they kiss in public, hold hands and for the most part seem genuinely happy. Perhaps our American Presidential couple should take note… PDA is ok… At least in France it is!
But perhaps all us single people in the world can learn a thing or two from the French. People are so worried about age, what a person does for a living, stature, and how many Instagram likes a person might have. By looking at physical characteristics we are missing : CONNECTION!
You can have all the amazing physical traits that would make you an optimal mate, but without connection, you’re screwed and you might as well swipe left!
Au Revoir!
