TikTok Excursions Part 3 : Frog Town & the Korean Poet.

A frog in a well cannot conceive of the ocean. -Zhuanzi

Frog town.

That’s where doom scrolling on TikTok landed me in Los Angeles, at a place called “Just What I Kneaded.”

A cozy cafe nestled on the banks of the Los Angeles river in the heart of Frog Town.

Cool.

Eclectic.

Yummy donut.

& spicy chai tea.

Perfect for a June gloom kinda day.

The Chilaquiles

These were just ok.

The egg was a bit overcooked.

Not enough crunch.

Loved the pickled onions.

Definitely a must try.

Although, next time I’d go with the breakfast sandwich.

La Colomba & The LA River

I love a La Colomba chilled vanilla draft latte.

Especially with an eclectic view of the Los Angeles river.

The Korean Poet

As I was sitting sipping my draft vanilla latte.

There were 2 Korean women reading to each other sitting next to me.

In Korean.

Then one started chatting with me and shared her poetry book.

Her name was Sonny.

She then read me one of her poems.

I told Sonny I was a storyteller.

And she then told me a story of how she migrated to America.

Went to nail school.

And told her sister she was going to open up a nail shop in Beverly Hills.

“You can’t open up a nail shop in Beverly Hills.Who do you think you are?” Her sister bickered.

“I’m Sonny. Watch me.” She responded.

“I didn’t listen to her. I worked hard. Made the money to open my shop in Beverly Hills.”

Sonny then proceeded to name drop some of her A list clientele.

“Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Roseanne Barr. But Roseanne was not so nice.”

I can’t remember the rest of the list of celebrities that Sonny named.

However, Sonny promised me she’d mail me a copy of her beautiful poetry book “Los Angeles Palm Trees.”

Only in Los Angeles.

Only in Frog Town.

Only sitting by the Los Angeles river.

Sipping a chilled draft latte can you meet a Korean poet who starts to read you a poem she wrote called “The Los Angeles River,” from her published poetry book.
