Yes, Summer Was Better In The 80’s #EndofSummer
Summer, it turns me upside down
Summer, summer, summer
It’s like a merry go round
Magic, The Cars

I posted this pic on my Notoriouslysinglegirl IG. My trusty floaty flamingo 🦩 in a 102 Los Angeles sweaty heat wave. “Summer it turns me upside down!” The song “Magic” by The Cars started playing in my head.
I then went to watch the video on YouTube and I saw this post.

I’ll have to agree with this dudes dad. Yes, life was better in the 80’s. Especially summer.
There were no threats of mask mandates or global warming. There was no texting. There was no social media or Elon Musk.
There was MTV. But my parents didn’t have cable TV so there was Video One on channel 9 with Richard Blade, that British guy that was also on KROQ.
It was only an hour long but oh so delicious! The videos told stories in technicolor. Like Rick Ocasic walking on water in a high roller swimming pool somewhere in the Hollywood Hills.
Summers in the 80s were truly magical. My brother and I would spend all day swimming in our family pool, riding our bikes with our friends till the sun came down and on weekends there were family parties on the sand in Long Beach.

Kids got to be kids with very little adult supervision. We got to explore who we were. Who we weren’t. And of course who we wanted to be.
There was no snap chat. Very little bullying. And almost no teen suicides.
Depression didn’t exist. But pop rocks did. Fireworks in the streets and the The Night Stalker. Those were the “kid killers” or what we were told was killing kids at that time which was rare. All before John Walsh started to spew his fear porn on TV which ended normal childhood in America.
Music was everything to us kids back then. I remember spending hours making mix tapes pirated from radio stations like “The Mighty 690” & “KROQ.”
It was sometimes impossible to look up the lyrics to certain songs. And I had dyslexia. So, I would just sing the songs like I heard them. The song “Our lips are sealed” by the GoGo’s I would sing “Honest Cecile.” Songs like “De Do Do” from The Police and “Mr. Roboto” by Styx we’re some of my favorites to “group sing” with my friends.
There was no IG. No Bumble. The internet didn’t exist.
People connecting with each other. Normal. Real. That’s what we had. Pure fun.
Friends were friends. There was more love . Less hate.
So yes, summer in the 80’s was better. It’s was MAGIC!
