Death By Pant Suit: The Real Reason Why Hilary Failed

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

“The way you dress is important. Clothes are important. That’s what people look at first.”

Words of wisdom from my mother, a fashion designer seamstress since the age of 5 years old. Still to this day she is meticulous with her party outfits.

This morning when I turned on the television to watch Hilary’s concecssion speech, her outfit stood out like a sore thumb.

A black pant suit engulfing a deep purple satin blouse.

Memories of catholic school swarmed my brain. Priests wore deep purple and black during lent. Morning Jesus Christ’s death.

“Purple — along with white and gold — are the colors of the National Women’s Party according to the New York Times. An early statement by the party stated that purple symbolizes “loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause.”

I know, I know. I should be focussing on politics and not fashion. But come on! I’m not a pant suit wearing kind of gal, nor could I relate to Hilary. Just because she has a vagina doesn’t mean she represents me or all females for that matter.

She was a terrible dresser throughout her campaign.

Coiffed in a 12 thousand dollar Armani tweed jacket, while she talked about helping farmers and blue collar workers. Really, for 12k you’d think she could have worn something better.

But the pant suit generation is dead! And probably one of the reasons Hilary did not get elected.

To me she presented herself as a stuffy old school woman who would never be open to new ideas.

I’ve been there.

Sat with these ‘pant suit’ wearing wome who frowned at my red high heels as well as my creative endeavors. They even mocked them in public.

Instead of Armani, she should have been wearing Moschino, Gucci, Prada, Stella Mc Cartney or anything that had life to it!

Coco Channel is rolling around in her grave.

The reporters on television this morning were gasping: “Woman are wondering what to tell their daughters?”

Here’s what I would tell my daughter if I had one:

Just because a woman is running for president doesn’t mean you have to vote for her. Her politics are important. How she treats other women around her is important. How she carries herself is important. And just because you wear a dress doesn’t mean you are weak. Just because you wear color and show your true creative self doesn’t make you defiant. Be an individual, and dress to impress!

In an age where teenage girls are wearing booty shorts to school and thinking them appropriate dress attire, I don’t think that they wanted the pant suit wearing grandmother running their country.Or that they cared!

I’ve personally retired those red high heels and traded them in for my converse. Just until my knee injury gets better. The comments I’ve gotten when I’ve worn them with fancy dresses: “I love how you’ve paired the converse with your dress, it’s sexy chic,” “It’s says lot’s of your personality,” “Relaxed yet stylish.”

And if Hilary wore converse or something that people could actually relate to, maybe she would have won…. maybe not….

The elections are over. No one died. If you are healthy and breathing you should still celebrate your freedoms while you have them!
