Latte & Love: My Cafe Crawl Through Colombia

Sleep is for the weak. Colombian coffee is for legends.

-Juan Valdez

Colombia = Coffee.

One of my most favorite things to do is sip coffee and do some writing at a swanky cafe.

And when you’re in the coffee capital of the world, it’s a must!

Colombia is having a cafe renaissance following in the footsteps of American culture.

So many eclectic cafes brewing and curating their own specific coffee beans and brands. There were way too many cafe’s for me to visit and this blog post really can’t do them justice but here are a few of my favorites.

Abacus Coffee & Books, Cartagena

I ran into a couple traveling from San Francisco at my boutique hotel in Cartagena Colombia. We chatted about strolling the streets of Cartagena, scouting “perezoso’s” (sloths) in trees at a local park and of course their favorite cafe in Cartagena: Abaco Libros y Cafe.

Cappuccino & Cake

From the minute I walked in I loved this place. Coffee + Books + Nooks with picturesque views to slowly sip your cappuccino.

Cafe Lunatico, Cartagena

I loved Cafe Lunatico where I got refuge from the Caribbean heat, where I sat down to have a coffee frape with baileys and an alfajorre. This place is busy since it’s on a Main Street. Great coffee culture and maps of local coffee regions to educate yourself.

Juan Valdez, Colombia

Juan Valdez is literally Starbucks in Colombia. They are all over Colombia. In fact, I was so excited to see a Juan Valdez cafe, I literally missed my flight at the airport in Bogota. But I guess I can blame it on Avianca airlines since they want you to line up almost 2 hours before your flight leaves. I had an hour to spare when I got into the checkin but wasn’t aware of these bizarre rules.

Cafe del Renacer , Bogata

Cafe Del Renacer in Bogata is a super cute little cafe nestled on a corner. It’s fun. It’s cozy. It’s got its own corner street coffee sign.

I had a latte with a generous pour of Bailey’s and a pistachio and chocolate chip cookie on the side. I really loved the eclectic vibe of this cafe. They even have their own special coffee filtration method which was created for a Japanese empress Hario and introduced to the public in 2004 called Vronx 60.

Colo, Bogata

There are so many amazing cafes and coffee shops to visit in Bogata. There’s literally a cafe on every corner.. I heard about Colo from Flavors of Bogota blog post on the “9 best cafes in Bogota.” And of course it didn’t disappoint. Amazing co-working atmosphere perfect for a writer.

I took a coffee break and had a spicy cacao with a side of Tostones :avocado and spicy sauce. On the side. Magnificent.

Shows you how busy and popular this place is.

Cafe & Bikinis, Bogata

I didn’t get a chance to try this place out but it looked enchanting.

The Art Hotel, Poblado Medellin

Although not a cafe, The Art Hotel, did serve free afternoon coffee for all their guests. The coffee was super good and came served in fine china.
